In this gallery we are using Landscape Images. We keep a neat clean
appearance and operation by ensuring that all of the images are proportional in
width and height.
When a proportional image is resized to the specified Image Gallery width of 400
pixels, the height automatically resizes to a proportional 300 pixels.
The same holds true for the thumbnails. The specified width of 100 pixels
results in a proportional height of 75 pixels.
In this example we use several different image sizes. But the key is they
are width and height proportional.
Although image three is not a standard size, it is still proportional so that
when it is rescaled to 400 pixels wide, the height automatically reduces to 300
pixels.
The original for image four was neither standard nor proportional.
Applying a simple back fill allows us modify the image into a proportional size.
The KEY lies in the image sizes. They can be different sizes as long as
they are proportional.
How Image Sizes affect the
Image Gallery
The Custom Image Gallery is designed to work with all image sizes.
However the size and uniformity of those images directly effect how the
Image Gallery works.
The key word for your auction images is uniformity. On a per auction
basis, all of your images should be the same size.
The height and width should also be proportional to each other. So that
when the image gallery resizes the images, the images maintain the proper
proportions.
Standard image sizes include but are not limited to:
- 1024 x 768
- 800 x 600
- 640 x 480
The
above sizes are proportional so that if for example we take the 1024 x 768 image
and resize the width to either 800 or 640, the height will resize proportionally
to 600 or 480 automatically.
Of course square images of any size are inherently proportional.
Another key point to allow the proper resizing of the images by the Image
Gallery, is that the original must be LARGER than the intended gallery size.
- Scaling an image down in size maintains sharpness and clarity.
- Scaling an image up in size creates distortion.
Let's review the Image Gallery to the right. The Image Gallery defines the
size of the image to be displayed. In InkFrog, the main image at the top
can be from 60 to 600 pixels wide. We specify a size within that range to
both properly showcase the item being sold and to fit within the area defined by
the template. In this example, the main gallery image is 400 pixels wide
and the thumbnails are 100 pixels wide.
